Kinja'd!!!

...could there be a story like this:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-…

A plane crashes into a house. They cannot account for the whereabouts of three of the people involved.

Honestly, I just don't get it. They know how many people were in the plane. They know how many people were in the house. They know how many people didn't come out of the house. No one is missing.

Sorry for being cynical and drawing away from the tragedy that three people were (very likely) killed in such an accident. But between this, stuff at work, and the complete irrationality of the situation I'm in with a young woman I like, I just have no answers, no wisdom, and not much in the way of hope today.

I'd say "Thank God it's Friday," but I'm not sure that the fact that it's Friday helps anything.

Picture completely unrelated.

Happened really close to me a couple years ago, actually. I can't remember what the death toll was, but it was insane. I live about five miles from the crash site, and the explosion was so powerful it knocked some things off of shelves in my house.

I used to live underneath the landing pattern of a local airport, so we had these incidents from time to time, too. Some jackass young pilot thought the plane could run on fumes, or some old and grizzled pilot thought he was being chased by Huns again. Whatever, shit happens when you party naked.

But what kills me here is that they know how many people were in the plane. They know that those people did not jump out of the plane. They also know how many people were inside the house, and how many got out. Apparently, there was a variance of three people. And so, you declare that those people are therefore... missing? This blows me away. They're not missing. You know they were in the house. You know that they did not come out of the house. While extremely sad to think about what happened to them, it's just not rocket science.

Sorry I'm a jerk, but I had to say it!

Ahh, yeah. I think it's just legal stuff, though, until they find the bodies. If by some chance someone did survive, it would be pretty screwy if they'd already pronounced him dead.

At least I think so.

Actually, if it's a local airport as the article seems to imply, it's more likely that it's piston-engined science.

Damnit! That's what I get for not reading the article. Propeller Science?

I heard that a plane crashed in a cemetery...they're still digging up victims.

What's the deal with the young lady? Maybe the group can share some wisdom. Give us a try.

Heh, I doubt it. I think the rational answer is to just walk away, but my rational side is having a hard time being heard right not.

Long story short: she's a part-time bartender at a place I hang out with my buddies, she's several years older than I am (but doesn't look it), she has a night job while I have a day job, and she lives 40 miles away. She's usually icy to any guy, and always used to be to me. But lately, on random occasions, she's quite nice. If the bar is quiet enough, she'll turn one of the TVs to an old movie and we'll watch it at the bar. And just as randomly, she'll be icy to me again. She's also notoriously private and quiet, and it's taken me the better part of three months to get out of her basic information like the fact that she has a long commute. And yet, when she does open up a little bit, I have a real nice time with her. Nothing pressured, nothing crazy, nothing wild. Just a nice time.

In essence, it's just a spectacularly stupid situation with red flags all over it. There are so many stupid traps (flirting with a bartender, flirting with someone older than myself, etc.) that I really ought to know better. My rational mind tells me not to go there. The rest of me is slowly going there anyways.

Ultimately, I think the bigger problem is me.

I think you are right to put some distance between you and when it comes to romance. Continue to be on good terms with her. Be a buddy and not a boy friend. If things go well she could make for an excellent wing man.

For what it's worth I had plenty of pretty girl bar tender buddies back in the day. And I never found a girl I wanted to date at a bar.
